Katia Lief is an American author of crime fiction, psychological thriller novels and literary fiction. She was born in France to American parents, but quickly moved back home to the East Coast of the United States where she grew up. After graduating from Sarah Lawrence College, she would return to Paris. Months later, she returned to the U.S. to get a publishing job in New York (among other jobs) and then got her Master’s in literature and creative writing. She has written under her birth name of Katia Spiegelman, Kate Pepper and Katia Lief (which she appears to have settled on). She writes the Karin Schaeffer series.

Katia Lief became a published author in 1993 with the novel Peculiar Politics by Katia Spiegelman. The novel would later be re-issued as Peculiar Politics: Love, Sex and the Wrong Bride in 2005 and then re-published as Love, Sex & the Wrong Bride by Katia Lief. In 2004, she debuted her pen name Kate Pepper, with the novel Five Days in Summer. Since 2010, she has been writing as Katia Lief with the novel You Are Next.       It’s listed as The Vanishing Girl (see notes, which I admit are a little cumbersome).
