Christopher Bollen Synopses: Lightning People by Christopher Bollen is a standalone novel, and the author’s debut. Joseph Guiteau, a working actor, has fled the Midwest – and the shadow of a tragic family history – for a new life in New York City. In the wake of September 2001, he wanders through a city reshaped by grief and paranoia, attending conspiracy meetings in a restless search for meaning amid global and personal chaos. His fragile new marriage to Del, a Greek-born snake expert whose visa keeps her from deportation, is strained by a secret Joseph can’t outrun.

Their lives ripple outward, touching others bound by love, ambition, and disillusionment: William, a once-promising actor whose fading career drives him toward increasingly desperate acts; Madi, a young entrepreneur wrestling with the moral cost of her company’s success in outsourcing American jobs; and her brother Raj – Del’s former lover – a photographer capturing the hollow beauty of an alienated city.

Orient is Christopher Bollen’s second standalone novel. Orient is an isolated town on Long Island’s North Fork, its future as a historic village threatened by wealthy Manhattan transplants – many of them artists. One late summer morning, the body of a local caretaker is discovered in the water, and on the same day, a monstrous animal carcass washes ashore, rumored to have come from a nearby research lab. Suspicion falls on Mills Chevern, a tumbleweed orphan recently arrived from the West, with no roots and a murky past.

As deaths mount and fear spreads through the town, Mills is drawn into the mystery by Beth, a native returning from Manhattan, determined to uncover the truth. With the clock ticking, the two must navigate a web of secrets and lies, confronting a killer who may be smarter, faster, and far deadlier than they imagined.

The Destroyers is a standalone title by Christopher Bollen. Arriving on the sun-drenched Greek island of Patmos, Ian Bledsoe is broke, humiliated, and running from the fallout of his father’s death. His childhood friend Charlie – wealthy, charismatic, and thriving on the island – seems to offer the only lifeline Ian has left.

At first, Patmos is a dream: long days aboard Charlie’s yacht, the glow of friendship renewed, and the unexpected return of a girlfriend from Ian’s past. But beneath the island’s beauty – and beneath Charlie’s exuberance – lurks a shadow. When Charlie suddenly disappears, Ian is pulled into a tangled web of deception. Confronted by betrayals at every turn, he is forced to revisit a childhood game called Destroyers – a game that, he realizes, he and Charlie may never have truly left behind.
