Cassandra Clare Synopses: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare is the first book in the Mortal Instruments series. When Clary Fray, a fifteen-year-old from New York City, goes to the Pandemonium Club, she has no idea that she will be witness to a murder, much less one committed by three teenagers who have bizarre tattoos and use bizarre weapons. The body then vanishes into thin air. When there is nothing to indicate that a boy has died, not even a smear of blood, it is difficult to call the police when the perpetrators are obfuscated and everyone else is unable to see them. Or was he a juvenile?
This is Clary’s first encounter with the Shadowhunters, warriors who are devoted to eradicating demons from the planet. In addition, it is her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who resembles a shadow of an angel in appearance and demeanor. When her mother vanishes and Clary is attacked by a demon, she is sucked into Jace’s world with a vengeance within 24 hours. But why would demons be interested in Clary and her mother, two ordinary people? And how exactly did Clary get the Sight at once? The Shadowhunters are interested in knowing…
City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare is the second book in the Mortal Instruments series. Clary Fray only longs for her life to return to normal. What, then, is normal when you’re a Shadowhunter who kills demons, your mother is in a coma caused by magic, and you suddenly start seeing Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? Clary would spend more time with Simon, her best friend, who is becoming more than just a friend, if she left the Shadowhunters world. However, the Shadowhunting community, particularly her charming, enraged new brother Jace, isn’t ready to let her go. Additionally, Clary’s only chance of assisting her mother is to locate Shadowhunter Valentine, a rogue who is both her father and most likely insane and evil.
To make matters even more complicated, Downworlder children are being murdered in New York City. What is Valentine trying to accomplish if he is responsible for the murders? When the Soul-Sword, the second of the Mortal Instruments, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to look into the situation and immediately focuses on Jace. If Jace is willing to give up everything he believes in in order to assist their father, how can Clary stop Valentine?
