Marne Davis Kellogg is an American author of suspense novels. She writes the Lilly Bennett and the Kick Keswick series. From Denver, Colorado, Marne went to school in Paris and Rome. She volunteered as a Military Airlift Command/Braniff flight attendant, serving on troop transports to Vietnam. Marne has worked as a translator for a Colorado-based international oil company, a consumer reporter for a radio station, the director of communications for the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, an assistant bureau chief for the Rocky Mountain bureau of People magazine, and since 1981 has been executive vice president of the Kellogg Organization, Inc., a national fundraising counseling firm. Kate Jarvik Birch is an American author of YA fantasy novels. She writes the Perfected series. Kate has loved writing ever since she was little. She wrote her first novel when she was in the fourth grade, and the protagonist may have shared a similarity with herself. Since growing up, her essays and stories have appeared in Isotope: A Journal of Literary Nature and Science Writing, Saint Ann’s Review, Scissors and Spackle and Indiana Review. Kate studied painting and drawing at the University of Utah and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in 2005. Fu Manchu is the main character in a series of crime fiction novels by English novelist Sax Rohmer. Fu Manchu is a supervillain who uses methods such as bandits, thugs, snakes, spiders or fungi rather than using guns or explosives to kill. Karen E. Bender is an American author of women’s fiction novels. She grew up in Los Angeles, but has also lived in New York City and Iowa City, where she attended the Iowa Writer’s Workshop. Her short story collection Refund was a Finalist for the National Book Award in Fiction and was shortlisted for the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Prize and longlisted for the Story Prize. Growing up, my mum owned a lot of books including all of the V.C. Andrews books in the Dollanganger series. You know – Flowers in the Attic etc. Despite getting hooked on reading at a young age they never interested me. Maybe I thought they were “for girls” or something.
At 16 i moved from Scotland to Canada to live with my dad. He had a decent sized collection of books and I’d read through a lot of them randomly. He also owned the same V.C. Andrews books but again I never touched them. Never even gave them a second thought. (more…)
