Order of B. Kent Anderson Books


B. Kent Anderson is an American novelist of thriller and suspense novels. Aside from using his real name, he also has used the pen name of David Kent for his Department Thirty series earlier in his career. He got interested in writing fiction when after finishing his second grade school assignments, he would write fake newspapers. He started writing seriously in 1988 while he was working in radio. For 14 years, he wrote five novels, but was rejected left and right by publishers. He finally found an agent in 2002 and sold his first novel in three weeks. Order of Richard Hannay Books


Richard Hannay is the protagonist in five adventure novels by Scottish author John Buchan. The character is a fictional secret agent who was based in part on Edmund Ironside, an Edinburgh spy during the Second Boer War. Hannay was born in Scotland around 1877 and grew up around his father’s German business partners and thus learned how to speak German. He fought in World War I and reached the rank of major, serving in the New Army and also spying on enemies. The Richard Hannay novel The Thirty-Nine Steps was adapted into the film The 39 Steps by perhaps the greatest director of all-time, Alfred Hitchcock. (more…)

John Buchan, 1st Baron Tweedsmuir (1875-1940) was a Scottish novelist of adventure novels and an author of many non-fiction books. Buchan served as the 15th Governor General of Canada. His most famous novel was The Thirty-Nine Steps, which was adapted into the Alfred Hitchcock film The 39 Steps. Buchan would feature that novel’s protagonist, Richard Hannay, in four other novels as a major character and two others as a minor character. Following his death in 1940, Buchan received a state funeral in Canada before his ashes were sent to the United Kingdom. (more…)

Lew Archer is the central character in a series of hardboiled mystery novels by American-Canadian author Ross Macdonald. Archer is a private detective who works out of Southern California in the 1950’s. His characteristics initially started out very similar to that of Philip Marlowe, although he would diverge later on. The novels The Moving Target (as “Harper”) and The Drowning Pool were adapted to film, starring Paul Newman as the renamed “Lew Harper.” (more…)

Ross Macdonald was the pen name of American-Canadian author Kenneth Millar (1915-1983). During his career, Macdonald wrote crime fiction/mystery novels, largely featuring P.I. Lew Archer that were set in Southern California. Along with Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler, he is considered to be one of the masters of hardboiled mysteries.
