A Couple of New Releases for Oct. 9

Slow week in the fiction world, but we do have a couple of new releases for the week!

First is a short story collection from Kim Harrison, apart of her The Hollows series featuring Rachel Morgan. You can pick up Into the Woods: Tales from the Hollows and Beyond by Kim Harrison in hardcover, eBook and audiobook formats.

For sci-fi readers, Iain Banks has come out with the tenth book in his The Culture series. You can purchase The Hydrogen Sonata by Iain M. Banks in hardcover and eBook formats.

Order of Philip K. Dick Books


Philip K. Dick (1928-1982) was an American author of science fiction. Themes covered in his novels included monopolistic corporations, authoritarian governments, altered states, metaphysics and theology. His work would be used as the basis for several major films, including Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report, Screams, The Adjustment Bureau and more. In 2007, he was the first sci-fi author to be included in The Library of America series. (more…)

Robert J. Sawyer is a Canadian author of science fiction, although his novels include mystery elements. His work often looks at science intersecting with religion. His novels also deal with paleontology, consciousness and quantum physics. Sawyer holds dual citizenship in Canada and the U.S., thus his Canadian character often visit the States and his American characters visit Canada. His prose is clear, similar to that of Isaac Asimov. “Fifty Shades” Screenwriter Announced

Focus Features has announced that writer/producer Kelly Marcel has been hired to work on the screenplay for Fifty Shades of Grey, the bestselling erotica novel by E.L. James.

Among Marcel’s past work includes the Fox series Terra Nova and the film Saving Mr. Banks, set to star Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson. (more…)

J.K. Rowling Hints At Next Book

After a so-so reaction to The Casual Vacancy, J.K. Rowling is going back to where her bread was buttered – children’s books.

She told an audience at the Cheltenham Literature Festival that the next thing she write will be for children and that she already had a number of ideas.

She didn’t say much other than that, but she did say that it would be for kids younger than her Harry Potter books. (more…)

J.R.R. Tolkien Poem “The Fall Of Arthur” Confirmed For Publication

As reported previously, it has been confirmed that the unpublished poem by the great J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fall of Arthur, has been will be published. The poem was recently edited and is set to be released in May of 2013.

“Harper Collins will now publish it for the first time along with three essays by Tolkien’s son Christopher on the literary world of King Arthur,” reports The Oxford Times. (more…)

Louise Penny Wins Big At Bouchercon

Louise Penny and her Inspector Gamache have won a third straight Anthony Award for Best Novel at Bouchercon 2012 on October 6th, held in Cleveland, OH. The award is for A Trick of the Light (book 7 in the series), which was won by The Brutal Telling (book 5) and Bury Your Dead (book 6).

Attendees to the convention get to vote on the winners for the Anthony Awards – named after mystery writer/critic Anthony Boucher. (more…)

Evan is a former lawyer, now a journalist, whose boyfriend is a trial lawyer, so there are plenty of legal themes in the books. Delaney is working as a freelance journalist based in California.
