Night World is a series of young adult fantasy novels by American novelist L.J. Smith. Although it is a fantasy series, Smith also mixes in plenty of horror and romance. “Night World” refers to a secret society of vampires, werewolves, witches and shapeshifters who live among humans (who are oblivious). Each story follows a different teenage girl as the protagonist. The two rules to prevent discovery are never to allow humans to gain knowledge of their existence and never to fall in love with one. Lois Duncan is an American novelist of young adult suspense, mystery novels and children’s books. She has written over 300 magazine articles for magazines such as Reader’s Digest, Good Housekeeping and Ladies’ Home Journal. Her novel I Know What You Did Last Summer was adapted into a film in 1997, although she was not pleased with the comedic spin taken on the film. Lois’ youngest daughter, Kaitlyn Arquette, was murdered, which Lois wrote about in her 1992 non-fiction book Who Killed My Daughter?. The murder remains unsolved. (more…)
J.K. Rowling Turns Down Space Travel

The Casual Vacancy author explained how she was invited to go into space, but wasn’t too interested. “I was offered a seat. For a mere £2 million I could have been on the shuttle, but I turned it down.” (Of course that “mere £2 million” part was full of sarcasm.) (more…)

Riordan’s New Book Gets 3.5 Million First Printing
