The son of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Elliot Roosevelt (1910-1990) was a U.S. Army Air Forces officer as well as an author (although his books were later revealed to be ghostwritten by William Harrington). Raylan Givens is a fictional character created by American author Elmore Leonard, featured in a series of crime fiction novels. Raylan made to jump from the written page onto the screen when Graham Yost created the Justified FX television series on, based on the Elmore Leonard short story Fire in the Hole. Raylan is a former Marine, now a Deputy U.S. Marshal, about 40 years old and always wears his trademark cowboy hat. He is an expert marksman and a fast draw. While authors aren’t always pleased with how their work is adapted, Leonard considers the Raylan Givens portrayal (by actor Timothy Olyphant) to be “perfect.” The novel Pronto was also adapted to a made for TV movie. Celebrities, Politicians To Read “Moby-Dick”

Moby-Dick by Herman Melville may be a literary classic, but at around 600 pages, rarely is it actually read. Now UK PM David Cameron, Tilda Swinton, Stephen Fry and Simon Callow – all fans of the book – are teaming up to record the book in its entirety.

The project is the baby of author Philip Hoare and artist Angela Cockayne. The readings will be broadcast online. The 135 chapters will take 135 days to finish. (more…)
