James Crumley (1939-2008) was an American author of hardboiled crime fiction. He’s been described as a cross between Raymond Chandler and Hunter S. Thompson. His novel The Last Good Kiss was referred to as “the most influential crime novel of the last 50 years.” Although praised by his fellow authors, up until about 1990, his books sold more in Japan and France than they did Stateside. Glen Cook is an American novelist of science fiction and fantasy. He is best known for his series The Black Company. He got interested in writing when he was in grade school and later began writing the high school newspaper. He served in the Navy and went through college, but that didn’t allow him much time to write. These outlines were used for the basis of a series of thriller novels by authors such as Alastair MacNeill, John Denis and Hugh Miller.
