The “Fifty Shades” Phenomenon Continues

E.L. James has become the first author to sell 100,000 copies of three books in a week. James is destroying all records that stand in her way, selling 205,130 copies of Fifty Shades of Grey (the first book in the Fifty Shades trilogy) in only seven days.

The next record in Fifty Shades’ path is the paperback sales for a debut novel, a record that is currently held by The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. The record stands at 765,000, but it took Brown’s novel six whole months to achieve that record! (more…)

The Lord of the Rings is an epic high fantasy adventure novel written by English author J.R.R. Tolkien. The novel follows hobbits Frodo Baggins, Sam Gamgee, Merry Brandybuck and Pippin Took and others including Aragorn, Boromir, Gimli, Legolas and Gandalf during the War of the Ring. The Lord of the Rings was adapted into a feature film trilogy released between the years of 2001 and 2003. Order of J.R.R. Tolkien Books


J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973) was an English author best known for his high fantasy novels including The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and others. Aside from being an author, Tolkien was also a poet, university professor and philologist. Due to Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings books, he was able to breathe new life into the fantasy (and more specifically, high fantasy) genre. The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit have each been adapted into other mediums several times, but the most famous adaptations are the Peter Jackson film adaptations of each. Evidently, his legacy lives on decades after his passing due to movie adaptations of his work and as a major inspiration to any fantasy novelist. (more…)
