Ramona Quimby is the main character in a series of children’s novels by American author Beverly Cleary. Ramona Quimby was introduced to readers as Henry Huggins’ friend Beezus’ sister. Ramona starts out as a kid in nursery school who often follows her sister around, annoying her. As the books go on, the Ramona character ages with each book. By the end of the series, she is ten years old, but is still as imaginative as ever. The books share some of the characters from the Henry Huggins series. Beverly Cleary was an American author of children’s books. Born in April 12th, 1916 she sadly passed on the 25th of March, 2021.
She wrote the Henry Huggins and Ramona Quimby series. Cleary lived on a farm in Yamhill, Oregon; a town that didn’t even have a library. Despite this, Beverly loved to read, and her mother had the Oregon State Library send books to Yamhill. Soon, her family would move to Portland, where she went to school. Beverly’s first full-time job was as a librarian in Yakima, Washington where she observed children looking for the same kind of books she had looked for herself at their age – books about children themselves. She began writing books for children in order to give young readers something to relate to. (more…)

Hilary studied law at the London School of Economics, but transferred to the University of Sheffield where she graduated as Bachelor of Jurisprudence. After marrying geologist Gerald McEwen, she lived in Botswana and then Saudi Arabia. Upon returning to England, she became a film critic for The Spectator while she wrote her early novels.
