The Sunny & Shadow series of cozy mystery novels is written by Claire Donally. Donally is a bit of a mysterious author – we know it’s a pen name, but that’s all there is to know. Of course it makes the books that much better – knowing that the author herself – or himself – is shrouded in mystery.

CJ Daugherty, also writes under pen name Christi Daugherty is a former crime reporter, investigative journalist, political writer and is now a full-time novelist. Having only done mostly writing gigs for a living she recalls working for several US newspapers including the Dallas Morning News and the Savannah Morning News and for a few years worked as a stringer for Reuters in New Orleans. She writes the Josiah Reynolds mystery series, the Saga of the de Magela Family fantasy series and the Last Chance romance series. James Twining is a British author of thriller novels. He writes the Tom Kirk series. James was born in London but spent much of his childhood in Paris. After graduating from Christ Church, Oxford with a first-class degree in French Literature, he began working for investment bank UBS in their corporate finance division. He would end up leaving to start his own company. Then, in 2001, he was named as one of the “Best of Young British” entrepreneurs in The New Statesman. James lives in London with his wife, Victoria. Order of Judge Dee Mysteries Books
Judge Dee Mysteries is a series of historical mystery novels and short story collections by Dutch novelist Robert Van Gulik. The series began simply as a translation that Van Gulik did for a Chinese novel entitled Dee Goong An, but the translation got Van Gulik’s interest in continuing the Chinese detective fiction genre. He decided that it would be easy to take old Chinese cases and write them for the modern reader. The character of Judge Dee was based on a real-life statesman/detective named Di Renjie from the 7th century. (more…)
Order of Robert Van Gulik Books
Robert Van Gulik (1910-1967) was a Dutch author of historical mystery novels and short stories. He wrote the Judge Dee Mysteries series. Van Gulik was born in the Netherlands, but spent his early years in (what is now) Jakarta, Indonesia and learned multiple languages. He earned his PhD from Leiden University back home in 1935. Van Gulik would then end up working as a linguist for the Dutch Foreign Service. He was in Tokyo at the time World War II broke out, so he was evacuated and ended up in China where he got married. The rest of Van Gulik’s life was spent moving all over the world, but he ended up dying in The Hague, The Netherlands. At the time of his death, he was the Dutch ambassador to Japan. (more…)
