Garry Disher is an Australian author of crime fiction and children’s novels. He writes the Wyatt series and the Inspector Challis series. Disher obtained postgraduate degrees from Adelaide University and Melbourne University. He was awarded a writing fellowship from Stanford University and wrote his first collection of short stories. He then travelled the world, ending up back in Australia, teaching creative writing. In 1988, Garry became a full-time writer, which he has been ever since. (more…)

James Herbert (1943-2013) was an English author of horror and dark fantasy novels. He is the author of the Rats series and the David Ash series. Several of his works were adapted to film and his novel The Secret of Crickley Hall was recently made into a BBC One serial on television. H.P. Lovecraft (1890-1937) was an American author of horror stories. He did not achieve any significant fame during his lifetime, but has posthumously become an extremely influential author of his time period. Growing up, Lovecraft suffered from night terrors, which would later inspire some of his fiction. He was a reclusive adult – a night owl who lived with his mother. After writing into the pulp magazine The Argosy, he gained the attention of Edward F. Daas (President of the United Amateur Press Association), who encouraged him to start writing poems and essays. Sadly, he lived out his final days in immense pain due to small intestine cancer and malnutrition. Stephen King referred to Lovecraft as “the twentieth century’s greatest practitioner of the classic horror tale.” (more…)
