Le Carre, Rushdie Squash Feud
Written by Julie Vegas on Thursday, November 15th, 2012Authors John le Carre and Salman Rushdie have squashed their long-running feud over the freedom to insult religion.
The issue got heated in The Guardian in 1997, but actually started in 1989 when le Carre tried to get Rushdie to stop distribution of his novel The Satanic Verses due to the threat of violence by Muslims.
Eight years later in 1997, John was frustrated over being accused of anti-Semitism in his novel The Tailor of Panama. Rushdie couldn’t sympathize with le Carre because he was “so ready to join in an earlier campaign of vilification against a fellow writer.” (more…)

Bryce Courtenay’s Final Novel Released

“It’s been a privilege to write for you and to have you accept me as a storyteller in your lives,” he wrote. “Now, as my story draws to an end, may I say only, ‘Thank you. You have been simply wonderful’.”
Bryce has taken two years to write Jack of Diamonds, due to his battle with stomach cancer, which he recently found out was incurable. (more…)

Cinda Williams Chima is an American novelist of YA contemporary fantasy. Cinda started writing when she was in high school, but stopped in order to focus on college. After receiving her master’s, she worked as a clinical dietitian in Cleveland. She wouldn’t resume writing until her sons were teenagers. Carolyn Gimpel Hart is an American author of cozy mystery novels, including her Death on Demand and Henrie O series. In 1964, Carolyn won a writing contest for a mystery novel targetted at teenage girls. She then wrote YA mysteries until 1972. For the next 15 years, she would write standalone suspense titles, as publishers weren’t interested in female-authored American mysteries (until Marcia Muller, Sara Paretsky and Sue Grafton broke the door open).
