What I Read: January 2012

I haven’t read much the past couple of months, but I managed to get a little downtime in December, and I poured through quite a lot of books.

I finished Andy McNabs “Nick Stone” series of novels, with Zero Hour. At least I thought I did, until I realized his latest one, Dead Centre, was already out in the UK! So I picked it up there, and plan on reading that very soon.

Book Review: Soft Target by Stephen Hunter (It SUCKED)

In all my years of reading, I’ve never seen an author fall so far from grace as I have Stephen Hunter. Hunter wrote one of the best series of books in the original Bob Lee Swagger trilogy. He also had some additionally great books like the Earl Swagger Trilogy, Dirty White Boys and The Day Before Midnight.

All those books are amazing, and at the top of my “if I was stranded on a desert island” book list.

Since then, everything Hunter has put out has been very poor. Then there’s Soft Target, which is utter trash. (more…)

Book Review: The Litigators by John Grisham

I must confess that I swore off reading any more John Grisham novels. Grisham was one of my favourite authors for the longest time – and the first book I ever read after kids/teen fiction was The Client.

I quickly read all other Grisham books he had written, then was an avid purchaser of all John Grisham books every year. However I felt Grisham peaked with the King of Torts. I felt the Last Juror and the Broker were weak. The Associate left me highly disappointed as it built up very well and then completely fizzled out at the end. (more…)
