Each month we ask our Facebook followers for a book or series recommendation based on a particular genre or similar parameters – and then print the answers in our mid-month newsletter.

I thought it would be a good idea to have a separate page listing these, as I use it as a reference guide often.

This list is of the Top “Clean” Series which was first posted in the October 2020 Newsletter.

The world can be a cold and dark place so an escape into a “clean” series can be great for the soul. For the definition of clean reads we asked out readers for books that don’t use profanity. For the most part, they also feature plots that don’t get too dark.

I did my best to check each one to ensure they were clean, but if there are any that don’t fit this criteria – I apologize. Also, if you know of a book that should be listed here: please let me know in the comments below.

I was excited to learn of another clean author from Mindy. So, I went to Audible and played a sample of Alex Kava—“A Perfect Evil”. Imagine my utter surprise when the F word was read aloud three times in less than a minute!! Just sayin’!!

    Hello,
I was excited to be referred to the list as it is excatly what I am looking for these days, however as I started to scroll down it I notice authors I have read who have plenty of profanity in their books:
Anna Pigeon series by Nevada Barr
Joe Pickett series by C.J. Box
Mike Bowditch series by Paul Doiron
Detective D.D. Warren by Lisa Gardner

So my next question is which ones on your list do you know for sure have none or at least not the f-word? I know Alex Kava doesn’t as I have read all her books, so you could add the Maggie O’Dell books to your list they are great also. And Robert Crais also has Elvis Cole & Joe Pike series with no profanity and they are great reads too.

    Thanks Mindy

Hi Mindy – I’ll look into the series you mentioned. They were all suggested by our newsletter readers. I’m not 100% sure in regards to what ones don’t have the f-word. I’ll add the ones you mentioned thanks!

This is in response of Sue Grafton books being on your “Clean List” of books. The only problem I had was with the last book. It had so many filthy words in it I couldn’t finish it. Possibly someone else wrote it? Thanks for such a great website!!
